Handling dead pan expressions on the faces of audience.

During private or one-on-one conversations, people usually have animated faces, but they tend to wear a deadpan expression when they are listening to a speech. They tend to warm up as the talk progresses, and this depends on the interest level created by the speaker based on his or her experience, wit, and wisdom.

This situation can be prevented if you are passionate about your message, which will show in your energy levels and facial expressions. A good opening and introducing the topic of interest to the audience will make a vast difference in the way the audience receives you and your message.

Some tips are: involve them by asking questions, doing activities like role plays, group discussions, sharing a personal incident, a relevant joke, etc. This would most likely get them energetic, and you would start to notice animated faces in the crowd.

Yet the simplest act is to smile. As Anthony D’Angelo said, "Smile, it is the key that fits the lock of everybody’s heart." Start your speech with a bright and genuine smile (not the air hostess smile) and you are sure to open the lock of your audience’s heart.
